This annotated bibliography documents literature addressing the design & implementation of vegetation monitoring. It provides resources managers, ecologists, & scientists access to the great volume of literature addressing many aspects of vegetation monitoring: planning & objective setting, choosing vegetation attributes to measure, sampling design, sampling methods, statistical & graphical analysis, & communication of results. Over half of the 1,400 references have been annotated. Keywords pertaining to the type of monitoring or method are included with each bibliographic entry. Keyword index

Current efforts to improve the scientific basis for fire mgmt. on public lands will benefit from more efficient transfer of technical info. & tools that support planning, implementation, & effective. of vegetation & hazardous fuel treatments. The technical scope, complexity, & relevant spatial scale of analytical & decision-support tools differ considerably. This publication provides a state-of-science summary of tools currently available for mgmt. of vegetation & fuels. Detailed summaries include a description of each tool, location where it can be obtained, relevant spatial scale, level of u

There has never been a very detailed map of existing vegetation types of Texas statewide on a plant association level. Important broad and/or regional studies include those by Bray (1906); Tharp (1926, 1939); Cottle (1931); Dyksterhuis (1946, 1948); Allred, et al. (1954); Gould et al. (1960) and a map by Telfair (1983). Kuchler (1964) published a potential natural vegetation type map of the conterminous United States. Kuchler's map is a valuable contribution from both the standpoint of existing and potential vegetation of Texas, however, the scale is too small for many planning purposes. The a

This book explores a relatively small, but interesting and anomalous, region of Alberta between the North Saskatchewan and the Battle Rivers. The Beaver Hills arose where mountain glaciers from the west met continental ice-sheets from the east. An overview of the hills’ physiography helps us to grasp the complexity and diversity of landscapes, soil types, and vegetation communities. Ecological themes, such as climatic cycles, ground water availability, vegetation succession and the response of wildlife, and the impact of fires, shape the possibilities and provide challenges to those who
