Cloud computing, an emerging form of computing where users have access to scalable, on-demand capabilities that are provided through Internet-based technologies, has the potential to provide info. technology (IT) services more quickly and at a lower cost, but also to introduce IT risks. This report: (1) identified the models of cloud computing; (2) identified the info. security implications of using cloud computing services in the fed. govżt.; and (3) assessed fed. guidance and efforts to address info. security when using cloud computing. The auditor reviewed relevant pub., white papers, and

Cloud computing is widely recognised as a mean for bringing cost savings and better utilisation of resources to the IT departments and their limited budgets. Cloud computing, where IT is delivered as an on-demand pay-per-use service, is rapidly evolving from a hype to a serious alternative to traditional IT procurement. This development is vastly driven by big international players. If the Nordic region is to influence and gain from this development it is essential that the Nordic governments act now. This report sets the scene for a common understanding of the notion of cloud computing across

The Defense Science Board Task Force was asked to evaluate the National Nuclear Security Administration¿s strategic plan for Advanced Simulation and Computing (ASC) and its adequacy to support the Stockpile Stewardship Program, whose mission is to ensure the safety, performance and reliability of our Nation¿s nuclear weapons stockpile. The Task Force was also asked to evaluate the role of ASC in maintaining U.S. leadership in advanced computing and assess the impact of using ASC¿s capabilities for broader national security and other issues. This book presents the first broad look at the rapidly emerging field of data-intensive science, with the goal of influencing the worldwide scientific and computing research communities and inspiring the next generation of scientists. Increasingly, scientific breakthroughs will be powered by advanced computing capabilities that help researchers manipulate and explore massive datasets. The speed at which any given scientific discipline advances will depend on how well its researchers collaborate with one another, and with technologists, in areas of eScience such as databases, workflow managemen

Rare-event simulation concerns computing small probabilities, i.e. rare-event probabilities. This dissertation investigates efficient simulation algorithms based on importance sampling for computing rare-event probabilities for different models, and establishes their efficiency via asymptotic analysis. The first part discusses asymptotic behavior of affine models. Stochastic stability of affine jump diffusions are carefully studied. In particular, positive recurrence, ergodicity, and exponential ergodicity are established for such processes under various conditions via a Foster-Lyapunov type a
