The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that about 20,000 lung cancer deaths each year in the U.S. are related to indoor exposure to radon. The only way to know whether indoor radon levels are elevated is to test the indoor air. This report contains findings that describe the problems that have been identified and correctives that are recommended. The purpose of this evaluation was to determine how EPA ensures that: radon testing devices provide accurate data on indoor radon risks; and radon testing laboratories accurately analyze and report indoor radon results.

Recent research suggests that indoor mold poses a widespread and, for some people, serious health threat. Federal agencies engage in a number of activities to address this issue, including conducting or sponsoring research. For example, in 2004 the Inst. of Med. issued a report summarizing the scientific literature on mold, dampness, and human health. In addition, the Federal Interagency Comm. on Indoor Air Quality supports the EPAżs indoor air research program. This report deals with the health effects of exposure to indoor mold: (1) the conclusions of recent reviews of the scientific litera

A practical guide to both general principles and specific methods used to assess exposure to indoor air pollutants. Addressed to public health professionals who lack specialized training in this field, the book aims to facilitate well-designed assessments in order to identify health hazards and support strategies for risk management. Information is specific to the assessment of air pollution exposure in such indoor environments as homes, offices, and various public service buildings. The book has two parts. The first, which serves as a general introduction, opens with an explanation of concept
